  • Congratulations to the Hamilton College team (Dave Hamilton S, Tom Irvin V, Yuqi Mao 2nd, Katherine Alser L, Victoria Jenkins 5th) who won the gold medal in division 5 of the 14th annual College Curling National Tournament in Chicago last weekend by defeating University of Denver 1, 9-7, in the final. Hamilton was the only East Coast team in Division 5 (of 8 teams), and they did us proud! Team photo. Complete results
  • Two Utica teams made the trip to Belfast Maine for the Women's Challenge March 15-18. Utica 1 (Julie Chanatry S, Lisa Magnarelli V, Mary Jane Walsh 2nd, Ann Kebabian L) made it to the A semi-finals. Utica 2 (Heather Shaw S, throwing lead rocks, Marina Taverne V, throwing last rocks, Brenda Citriniti 2nd, Carrie Casab L) made it to the B semi-finals. GNCC - watch out for our new curlers, they'll be in the A event before long!
  • Team Rowlett (Roger Rowlett S, Julie Chanatry V, Dan Stuhlman 2nd, Mary Jane Walsh L) were the 1st event runners-up at the Raymond Kayser 5-and-under mixed bonspiel, February 21-25. Other Utica representatives at the Kayser included Team Law (Conrad Law S, Knyoca Law V, Phil Citrinitti 2nd, Brenda Citrinitti L), Team DiMeo (Bill Turner 4th, Jennifer Turner V, Mike Dimeo S-2nd, Bernie Dimeo L), and Team Stevens (Jerry Stevens S, Heather Shaw V, John McMahon 2nd, Kristin Glass L).
  • At the GNCC Playdowns for the National USCA Mixed Competition (Feb 1-3), Team Palazzoli (Dave Palazzoli S, Cindy Brown V, George Brown 2nd, Kathy Palazzoli L) came in second to Team Edie of Potomac in a tight final game.
  • Team Moore (Brian Moore S, Marj Moore V, Mike Swiercz 2nd, Heather Swiercz L) were runners-up in the 2nd event of the Norfolk Mixed Bonspiel, Feb 9-11.
  • Learn to Curl at the Utica Curling Club, Saturday, March 3, 2007, 1:00-5:00 PM. Curling instructors will be on hand to teach you all aspects of the game. Bring loose-fitting warm clothes and a clean pair of sneakers. Cost: $5 for 12 years and under; $10 for 13 and older.   • All three Utica teams made Sunday at the 2006 Dykes Memorial Bonspiel at the Rochester Curling Club. Team Brien (Jason Brien S, Alex Ryan V, Jason Golubski 2nd, Craig Decastro L) were runners-up in the C-event; Team Stuhlman (Dan Stuhlman S, Roger Rowlett V, Jerry Stevens 2nd, Charlie Marsland L) made the D event semifinals; Team Bohrer (Jim Bohrer S, Phil Citrinitti V, John McMahon 2nd, Rob Baker L) made the D event quarterfinals.
  • Congratulations to our college curlers, who traveled to Broomstones for the College Curling East Coast Regionals; the first bonspiel for most of them. Dave Hamilton (from Hamilton College) skipped a team of 3 put together by the organizers that came in second. Colgate University's team of Doug Collins, Erika Rader, Tim Barry, and Erin O'Keefe came in third.
  • Congratulations to Team Stuhlman, who won the Queen of Hearts bonspiel at Nashua, NH (Feb 2-5): Anne Stuhlman, Lisa Mitchell (Broomstones), Liz Abeltin (Cape Cod)/Kathy Vassar (Broomstones), Julie Chanatry.
  • The Utica Curling Club will host the U.S. Men's and Women's Championships February 16-24, 2007. Volunteers are needed; contact Dean Kelly. Support curling and receive marketing benefits - become an event sponsor. Come see Team Fenson, the 2006 Olympic bronze medalists, and Team McCormick, the 2006 World Championships silver medalists, compete for the 2007 U.S. Championships!
  • Come to the club and watch the opening ceremonies at 5:00 PM Sunday, February 18. Mingle and meet with all the teams before and after the ceremonies. Dinner (heavy hors d'oeuvres) will be served 4:00-6:30 PM ($25). Please RSVP with dinner reservations to Joyce Shaffer by Friday, February 16.

  • Curl for a cause! Encourage your friends and colleagues to put together a team for the 8th annual Charity Curling Challenge, Saturday (January 20, 2007) - and offer to coach them.
  • BREAKING NEWS:  Week five of the Tom Garber was postponed because of weather. It has been rescheduled for Thursday March 15th at 7:00pm. Any game that can not be played on that night may be played prior to March 15th at 7:00pm. Skips please inform Paul MacEnroe of your plans as soon as possible.

  • The first annual CanAm wheelchair bonspiel took place at UCC on Saturday February 3rd. The 2007 USA Wheelchair National team, Jimmy Joseph, Danell Libby, Augusto Perez, and Jim Pierce, were undefeated against teams from Utica, Toronto and Bradford, Ontario.

  • The Utica Curling Club hosted the GNCC Junior Championships (eastern curling junior playdowns) from December 28-31, 2006. Nineteen teams competed for three spots at the Junior Nationals, which will be held at the Granite Curling Club in Seattle, Washington from February 3-7, 2007. Each team played a minimum of 5 games. Of the eighty curlers that competed, nine are from the Utica Curling Club. One of the Utica curlers, Jared Wydysh of Holland Patent, was on the boys winning team. Other members include Alex Leichter and Jake Weisberg of Massachusetts, Willie Wilberg of Wisconsin, and Chris Bradley from Pennsylvania. Wydysh’s team finished undefeated at 6-0. The Stephen Dropkin team, 6-1, from Massachusetts was the other boys team advancing to nationals. In the girls bracket, the Monica Walker team from Massachusetts finished undefeated at 7-0 to advance to the nationals.   • Three teams represented Utica at the December Knights (Men's) 10-and-under bonspiel in Schenectady, December 8-10. Team Law (skip Conrad Law, vice Marvin Carey, second Phil Citrinitti, lead John McMahon) were the B-finals runners-up, and Team Stuhlman (skip Dan Stuhlman, vice Roger Rowlett, second Tom Thorngren, lead Charlie Marsland) were the C-finals runners-up. Also competing was Team Chapman (skip Glenn Chapman, third Chuck DelMonte, second Rich Minutti, and lead Joe Gaebel).
  • Two Utica teams faced off in the USCA National Wheelchair Championships December 7-10. The winner: Jim Pierce, skip, Augusto Perez, Jimmy Joseph, Danell Libby. Runner-up was Mark Taylor, skip, Tom Hansen, Bob Prenoveau, Missy Kelser.
  • In the Maple Leaf Bonspiel at Baie D'Urfe (weekend of December 1st), Dave and Kathy Palazzoli and Cindy and George Brown repeated their win of the first event. Bob and Diane Caine, Fred Hicks and Pam Jones wont the 2nd event. Congratulations!
  • A 6-5 victory over defending champs Toronto helped Paralympians Jimmy Joseph, Danell Libby, Augusto Perez, and Jim Pierce win the 2nd annual Cathy Kerry Wheelchair Bonspiel in Ottawa on Saturday, December 2nd.
  • It was a good weekend for Utica teams at the Silver Belles bonspiel at Broomstones December 1st-3rd. Three teams advanced to the finals: Team Shaffer (Joyce Shaffer skip, Mickey Hasse vice, Sue Gartner second, Peggy Pratt lead) played in the D finals; Team Chanatry (Julie Chanatry skip, Lisa Magnarelli vice, Mary Jane Walsh second, and Ann Kebabian lead) won the C event; and Team Stuhlman (Anne Stuhlman skip, Laura Jacon vice, Lisa Mitchell (Broomstones) second, Karen Rogowski lead) took the B event.
  • Turkey Spiel results. The "top meat" winners: "The Drumsticks" Dale and Carol Jones, Phil and Brenda Citrinitti (new curlers!). Complete results
  • Representing Utcia a the Empire State Bonspiel in Ardsley will be Cindy Brown, Kathy Palazzoli, Barb Felice, Cincy Ciarelli, Diane Higgins; and  Marge VanSlyke, Nancy Owens, Sue Gardener, Jackie Styfe. The alternate tem is Joyce Shaffer, Mickey Hasse, Susan Fountain, Linda Rance.
  • Team Stuhlman won the Carosella Memorial Invitational at Schenectady November 3rd-5th. Congratulations to Anne Stuhlman (skip), Laura Jacon (vice), Lisa Mitchell (Broomstones, second), and Karen Rogowski (lead).
  • All American Results (October 23-27, 2006): A event Mary Hopsicker, Sue Williams, Sue Gardner, Cindy Kelly; B-event: Michele MacEnroe, Gloria Gappelli, Carla Barrett, Heather Shaw; C-event:  Anne Stuhlman, Kathy Palazzoli, Jackie Strife, Claire Bareiss; D-event: Judie Giovannone, Melon Sofinski, Lee Russell, Sue Fountain.
